Looking for a Speed sensor

So my biggest issue right now is I am unable to find anything similar to the speed sensor I currently have , with the lack of any real good number on it all I can find is “DR “ “40-45” and “0470” I’m assuming the 40-45 is the gearing? I haven’t been able to find anything like it online. It sits in the tail housing of the transmission of a 700r4 . The tranny reads “MD8” so I believe this tail isn’t original . I have a couple pictures for viewing if that helps at all. I’m hoping someone can guide me to a new one or possibly a different option??thanks all!

Re: Looking for a Speed sensor

MD8 is the GM code for the 700R4. The 40-45 is the tooth range of the driven gear that sensor will fit. Typically there are 2 or 3 sensors to work with 2.73-3.42 gears. You've gotta have the right sensor, and the right gears to match the trans and rear gear ratio. There are also different sensors on early cars vs late, but IIRC the later sensors will work with earlier cars as long as the gear/sensor is right for the right gearing/transmission.

Generally, when you look up the vehicle speed sensors in the catalog, you'll need the RPO code from the SPID in the glovebox to get the right replacement. Chances are above average that the early style sensor like you have in your photos, isn't available anymore. The 5spd version (early or late) hasn't been available in several years, Rock Auto doesn't list any sensors being available before the 1990 style change.

Re: Looking for a Speed sensor

This style was used from 84-86 in the Berlinetta, 86-89 in the Firebird, & from 84-90 in the Corvette.

I've got one (40-45 tooth count ) available so feel free to send me a PM if you can't find it elsewhere.

$80 + Shipping:

Coupe of scratches,... O-ring is good.

Sensor is 2" across and fits all 700R4 trannys. Requires electric type plastic gears,....... will work with 40-45 tooth count - only.
