Inserting outer race into low reverse roller clutch

Hello, I’m having a hard time inserting the outer race into the low reverse roller clutch. I’m using a BorgWarner brand here is some pics of my old and the new BorgWarner. I’m also using a Sonnax SmartShell

Put a slight bevel on the inner race where it goes into the roller clutch. Sonnax does not do this on all of them. I have run into this myself. Look at the old inner race to see what I am talking about. This will make it easy to install.

Re: Inserting outer race into low reverse roller clutch

I test fitted the Sonnax race into my old roller clutch and it fits nicely. I’m thinking that the BorgWarner unit is crap. I thought it was good because it was made in USA, there has got to be a way to wiggle it into place. I bought both the forward sprag race and the low reverse roller clutch as a set. I had no problem with forward sprag.

Oh I’m sorry you are right I do see the bevel. Maybe sand the edges with like 320 and just stay away from the small bearing zone

Re: Inserting outer race into low reverse roller clutch

Hello everyone I think I figured it out here are some pics of it complete. I had to push, twist and fiddle with some of the bearings but it went in without sanding the race edges . Sorry for being annoying to everyone on this fourm so far. I’m just under a lot of stress lately with work and all and it’s almost summer and I really miss my car. You guys in sunny California are so lucky with the weather. I don’t know these days I’m just not as sharp and patient with cars like when I was a teenager. I’ve never really owned any new cars and have done everything myself when it came to car repairs, including family and friends. Sorry for the rant!!!

Good to hear you're making progress. Just move the needle, it doesn't have to be a lot.
