Another tranny question
Another tranny question
I want to buy a better stall converter but before i do i need to fix my tranny. Under normal driving it shifts perfectly but under WOT the rpm's goto 7000 and stay there for maybe a second if not more. I tried adjusting the tv cable but no matter what i do i still wont shift. I have had it rebuilt 2 twice costing me alot! Does anyone have any ideas?
"rpm's goto 7000"
I assume this is a slight exageration, right? My initial hunch is that if it gets that high it is slipping. On the other hand if it is more like 5500, you could have the wrong calibration for your engine and it is past it's powerband and having trouble pushing the car to the calibrated WOT point. What is the oil level/condition like? If both are OK you could have a calibration issue. Go to your friendly local tranny shop and buy a used V-8 Governor with a 'C' on the inner weight. Put that in and see what happens (unless you already have that one of course!).

7000 rpms is not an exageration! Under normal driving it is perfect. its only under wot does it go to 7000. It does it on the 1-2 and even more so on the 2-3. I had it rebult (the first time) using an art carr rebuild kit and shift kit. If i didnt have so much money into this thing i would just buy a tranny from probuilt since i hear nothing but good things about him. And last time i checked 7000rpm and nitrous are not friends. The only thing that is saving my engine is the msd 6al. i have the limiter set at 6200. Thanks you guy for your help!
If that is the case I would first look and see what governor you have in there now. Inspect it for unusual wear, such as on the 'nails' that the weights pivot on or wear on the shaft. It should measure .800" diameter. Post back with the info.
