transmission question

I have the 4-speed auto and heard of people saying that they manually shift with the auto. Can you do this? How? Do you put it in 1 then shift to 2? What happens after 2? My shift selector says P R N OD D 2 1. By shifting manually does it hurt anything?

Yes I have, yes you can. You need to check your line pressure in D2 and D1. They should be the same as the max pressure in O/D and D, if not replace the Int/Rev boost with a larger one. If you do that then also install a TransGo Shift Kit/Reprogramming Kit.

So how do you shift? Do you have to let go of the gas or anything? Do you just push it to the next gear? What happens after you shift into 2? Do you move it to D? Or do you move it to OD?

after 2 you shift into "D" which is 3rd gear. After "D" you switch to "OD" which is 4'th gear.

After you have done the checks/changes I mentioned then you just keep moving the shifter as you want it to shift.
