700r4 shifter linkage all screwed up/not engaging in gear

So I just recently put my engine into my car a little over a week ago. When I was installing the transmission I accidentally snapped the shifter linkage by the actual "shifter" (idk what you call it) on the tranny. So I got one from my other third gen that was also had 700r4. However after installing the other one, I can't put it in park, and basically I have no idea what gear I'm putting it into now. Whenever I shift it back into park, it doesn't actually go into park on the tranny side, I have to go underneath and put it into park. Could someone direct me to a guide on how to adjust the linkage because I can't find anything on how to fix this. Also, been having issues getting my engine to idle so it's been idling at a pretty high RPM. That being said I've been having troubles getting the tranny to engage, would that be a TV cable adjustment issue, or is it not engaging because the engine is idling to high, or is that even a thing? It also might be transmission fluid which I need to check in the daylight.

Sotry for the long paragraph and thanks for the help.

There's not much adjustment...... Be sure that you've got the linkage mounting bracket ( at the tranny ) installed inthe correct holes.

Unscrew the cable from under the car - as it is.

Move the transmission shift lever ( on tranny ) all the way forward into PARK.

Move the shifter itself into PARK

Get back under the car and connect the shifter cable back onto the tranny shift lever.

If the shifter cable doesn't come close the shift lever at this point,...... Something is wrong. ( wrong cable, cable installed wrong, wrong bracket, bracket installed wrong, etc.. )
