I have a 1989 Camaro RS with the 305 TBI and the auto transmission. Ive always been used to having my car warm up especially when its cold outside or it takes forever to shift into drive. Today I let it sit for about 5 minutes and its a pretty warm day. It shifted into reverse just fine as it usually does and once I got out of the driveway I put it in drive and coasted down the neighborhood but when I reached the bottom of the hill it still had not engaged in drive. After about 4 minutes of waiting I thought that the transmission finally went. Well then I shifted it into first instead and it slammed into gear and almost stalled the car as it usually does into drive. Then I went back to drive and it engaged. The rest of the gears are smooth it just slams when it is first engaged. The fluid is in the recommended level and the transmission filter has been changed about 2,000 miles ago

 

Check the TV cable adjustment

 

Well I just got a new problem today. The car pops when I accelerate after I brake or come to a stop. It pops harder the harder I accelerate. Im assuming its a U-joint?

 

Could be, but check motor mounts tranny mount and TA mount as well.
