Speedmaster cover

Anybody using this transmission cover?
Is it good?
Does it fit a stock '88 Firebird V-8?
I like the fact it has a drainplug, (and it's not to expensive for me to have it shipped to my country...)

Re: Speedmaster cover

It says it will fit a 700R4. So, it should work.

Re: Speedmaster cover

No magnets in it, like the original cover, would that be a problem, or can I just do without those magnet(s)...?

Re: Speedmaster cover

The magnet should handily set in the pan, holding to the dran plug. Keep it.

Re: Speedmaster cover

New cover is aluminum, so magnet won't stick to it...

Re: Speedmaster cover

A couple of options with an aluminum pan would be to either epoxy the\a magnet to the bottom of the pan, or get a magnetic drain plug.

Re: Speedmaster cover

When ordering parts at Amazon, or Ebay, or Rockauto, shippingcosts to The Netherlands(EU) are high, and over the total: 21% custom/tax...
I paid about $30 for the $10 plug above...
And that's because it's comming from a non EU country......

(BTW, I paid about $90 for the pan, tax and shipping incl.....)

I've searched for those gaskets, but couldn't find the right size on Ebay.
The ones in the link are to small, won't fit.

Tread size: 0,5 inch,
Head size: 0,75 inch ( not that important, gasket can be larger..)

Re: Speedmaster cover

Search "Metal/Rubber Drain Plug Gasket" on dormanproducts
They list multiple manufacturer PNs for cross reference.
365274 is 12mm I.d., has 8 part numbers, 6 are GM. Maybe you can cross reference those to parts stocked in your country.

Re: Speedmaster cover

Thanks for the suggestion.
I bought a couple of M13 copper gaskets on Ebay UK, should do the trick.

Re: Speedmaster cover

Copper washers didn't work, magnetic plug leaked.
Metal/rubber washer worked great! ( same washer as sump plug btw...).
Cover is finally on, it holds about 1 liter ( ~1 pint..?) more transmission oil..
