700R4 rebuild no forward gears

Did a motor swap and had the transmission rebuilt with a non lockup converter. When doing the test drive didn't have overdrive then lost all forward gears only have reverse. Went back to the builder with the issue and they said by going with a non lockup I lost overdrive which isn't correct. They are going to look at it and see what the issue is. I'm not feeling all warm and fuzzy about this builder though. Any ideas why lost all forward gears? Linkage and fluid all good. Thanks

Re: 700R4 rebuild no forward gears

Overdrive and lockup are 2 entirely different things: you can have either, or neither, or both, working. Neither of which would prevent it from having ALL forward gears, however.

Sounds to me like this person is blowing smoke up where the sun don't shine, hoping to get you to bug off. Don't let him.

Can't help with the loss of forward gears... doesn't sound good though. Kinda sounds like something didn't get put together right.

I have a long-standing problem trusting transmission people... there's JUST NOT THAT MANY things that can go wrong with a freshly built one, besides what the builder did wrong. Yet they ALWAYS try to weasel their way out of accepting blame for their failed rebuilds. No doubt that's at least one contributing factor to the low level of trust that they enjoy among consumers. Slimeballs.
