Posi & Rear Ratio

Hello,

I have a 4.8 LS that I am putting into my Camaro. I currently have an open diff with 2.73's which would be miserable with the 4.8. The gear ratio I am choosing is a 3.42, as it should be a happy medium for highway/city driving. I am open to suggestions, though.

As for the posi, I was thinking of the different options. I know Auburn units wear out, and, so, the Zexel Torsen units are a good option. However, I have been told to just get a fourth gen rear with 3.42 gears, as it would be easier to swap my LS brakes onto. But finding a rear end with 3.42's and posi is a bit difficult, and not very fairly priced. Am I better off just getting something like the Detroit TrueTrac specifically for my 26 spline rear end and a set of 3.42 gears? A bit expensive, also.

I live in Oregon, so roads are not fantastic and moisture, so I thought a posi would be a good choice for traction.

Thanks!

If you get a 4th gen rear remember it is wider. Zexel are a good choice but you will need 28 spline axles. I went with a yukon duragrip and upgraded to 28 spline no issues.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I think I am just going to stick with my own rear end. I already painted it and whatnot. Well, I found a Yukon DuraGrip for a mere $250 new as an Amazon warehouse deal. I am going to follow suit and do the same! Thanks!
