Torque arm help

Bought a new torque arm for my 82 camaro 406 700r4. Read on the jegs website that i need a 85 or newer torque arm mount “clamshell mount”. Got one off a 99 doesnt fit. I would start drilling holes to make it fit but dont want to mess up pinion angle. Any advice?

Re: Torque arm help

Just buy the new correct bushing. They aren't expensive.

Re: Torque arm help

The right later "bushing" should fit a stock shell as stated above.

Is there any chance the '99 mount you got was from a manual?

Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Torque arm help

Exactly in what way does it "not fit"?

A manual one won't fit an auto trans or vice-versa. In the 3rd gen there's also the difference in which way the TA stamping faces (no idea whose brilliant idea that was): it can either be a "3" vs an "E". (or "W" vs "M") Not sure if the 4th gen has that as well but I kinda don't think so.

Re: Torque arm help

I don't know what you've got ( the Torque Arm or the bracket) but from what you posted; it sounds like you'll need the 82-85 brackets and bushings. POST SOME PICS so we can give you the best advise based on facts and we're not guessing !!!

The earlier design bracket has a "notch" in it and I'm pretty sure the 86+ bushings will not properly fit in the earlier 82-85 brackets. While this pic shows T5 brackets,... I'm fairly certain the auto brackets are made the same way (with a notch ). 82-85 on the LEFT ( Torque Arm "lips"facing pass side) and 86+ on the RIGHT. (Torque Arm "lips" facing the drivers side. )

Re: Torque arm help

Just wanted to point out that you guys forgot to put quotes around "bushing" like jmd did. Don't know why, but he feels we need quotes.
