Clutch died?

Hey all, on my 1984 Camaro (2.8l V6 manual) I heard a large bang, I believe while in first gear, and pulled over. After I didn't see anything, I tried to crank it over while in first, and found that the car would move forward as it cranked, which makes me think the clutch isn't fully engaging.
note: earlier in the day,it had gotten very difficult to shift. Anyone had anything similar or have a clue what's up?
thanks yall

Re: Clutch died?

Probably the clutch did indeed die. Might be able to start the car in neutral, but, I doubt you will be able to get it in gear with it running...

Re: Clutch died?

I'd troubleshoot the clutch release.

Re: Clutch died?

Your description sounds as if the Clutch Pressure-Plate is not releasing (or at least not completely) when you push the Clutch-Pedal to the floor.
I would first look at the Clutch Linkage... I do not remember if the 1984 cars had a hydraulic assist Clutch or not.
If the car does not use Clutch Linkage, then look at all the Hydraulic Clutch Components (Master-Cylinder, Hose, Slave-Cylinder, and Fork.
