4th gen 5 speed in a 3rd gen???
4th gen 5 speed in a 3rd gen???
Okay, I've seen many many posts about the t-56 tranny being tough as nails, but I was wondering if anybody has considered the 5 speed from behind a 4th gen v-6? I assume since they beefed up the t-56 they would beef up the 5 speed as well, but I don't have any info on it. Surely a 4th gen 5 speed is still stronger than a 3rd gen 5 speed (hell, everything else on the planet is stronger).
Also, I don't even know if there's a way to mate a small block and that tranny, even if it is stronger. But there's a ton of 4th gen fives speeds out there and they are dirt cheap!!! They would certainly make a much more economical alternative to a t-56, especially if you're just running a mild 350. This is mostly food for thought, so give me your opinions, guys!

i have an oppinion.
it is possible and it is being done a million times.
you'll see guys violently opposed to that idea on the grounds of the weakness of the v6 tranny wich is partially right. of course if you have the MUCHO DINERO required, you will go with the T-56 or the Tremec T-5,
the option for the POOR (like myself) with a mild 350 is:
"to hell with this, my babe ain't a racing car anyway and the v6t5's are there dirtcheap to go and grab"
it will last long if you don't do no POWERSHIFT or downshift from 5 to 3 while at 120km/h on the highway.
personally, i'm planning to install my v6t5 and take the time to overhaul my mwcV8T5, then swap again. it takes good half a day to do.
i hope that my oppinion is somehow useful.
