Lo/rev clutch clearance

Long time lurker here. Rebuilt different transmissions from Th200 to 4l80e including several th700r4's, but run into a first time problem with the Lo/Rev pack I can't figure out:

Whole bottom end (ring, sun, planetary, clutch pack) was damaged, so an obvious problem here.

Got new hardware, but got wayyyy too much clearance in the pack.

Piston & clutch support combo is correct, standard thickness clutch & steel. NO waved steel in both old and new set.

Measuring the pack on the bench gets me 1.062 (instead of 1,200 to 1,260). Installed in the case, you hear wayyy too much clearance as well.

Now I know a waved steel will take out some clearance, as will a thicker support. But it still come short of desired clearance for this pack.

Any ideas?

Re: Lo/rev clutch clearance

I am uncertain from your description if the Low Roller-Clutch Support was replaced...
They come in two different thicknesses (and each version can vary in thickness some.

The Low-Reverse Apply-Piston also comes in two different sizes.

Other than the regular Steels in the Low-Reverse Clutch Pack...
A Set of Selective Steels are produced to alter Clutch Clearance.

Don't know about the support, but I didn't change it (yet, as I might need some extra thickness in the end).

Support and piston are a match, by numbers and height.

Will order the thickest selective and give it a try.

An update for general information: a new waved steel and a thicker selective got me right in the middle @ 1.230
