Turbo 400 Flexplate To Torque Converter Gap

Turbo 400 Flexplate To Torque Converter Gap
So a while back i bought a th-400 crate transmission from monster transmission with one of their thor converters.
I'm disabled so the r&r of a transmission is not something i'm able to do anymore. So I paid a local shop to take the old tranny out, put the crate transmission in.
So other than the governer pin falling out and putting in a new sonnax i've not had any troubles with tranny.
A po replaced the engine at some point it appears to be at least a sbc 350 with 4 bolt mains as i've seen the oil pan off of this motor. Long story short engine has a bunch of blow by that appears to be worn out rings. Gotta a sbc crate motor, gotta neighbor to help me with r&r...
While unbolting the torque converter from flexplate noticed when torque converter is pushed all the way back in transmission and spinning free there's 3/8" .375" of an inch between the torque converter pads and the flexplate. Have not separated the motor from the bellhousing yet, so i've not changed the way the torque converter was installed, flexplate does not look like it's upside down and the starter never made any noise.
So when it was installed the torque converter bolts pulled the converter out
.375" to tighen flush with the flexplate.
Is this correct, normal? it does not seem right to me, seems like there needs to be a .375" shim or spacer between the torque converter pads and flexplate so the converter is not pulled out of the transmission 3/8" before it's flush.
Seems like maybe it has wrong flexplate for converter or converter pads are too short idk.
Am I missing something?
thanks in advance.

No. That seems excessive. Put some washers/spacers between. You typically only want the converter to come out of trans approximately 1/8”. Make sure converter snout also does not bottom out into crank
