700r4 Tranny Problem

well this isnt on my car,,its a car on ebay that im looking at. heres what the owner says about the problem:

the reverse doesn't work right, you have to rev it kind of high to get it pulling. I talked to a mechanic who recommended that I check either the linkage or the transmission filter since all the other gears have excellent performance. I didn't do it since whoever buys it might know more about transmissions.

What do you guys think, expensive or inexpensive fix? The cars got 112k miles, its an 87 firebird.

It will require and O/H, as suspected and to keep it from being a problem in hot weather in the future, the Reverse Input Piston should be modified but most rebuilders should know how to do that.

Roughly how much would a shop charge for an overhaul? This isnt something i could do myself right? The tranny needs to be pulled?

If you want a High Performance transmission with a one year warranty & unlimited miles during that year, the transmission sells for $1395.00 outright and in cludes 6 quarts of my Pro-Fluid. Give me a call and I will do my best to answer any questions you might have concerning this and which torque converter would work best for you, 800 7763288 M-S 10-6 PST. I hope this helps.
