700r4 adapter

Do they make an adapter that I can use to mate a chevy 350 engine to my v6 60⁰ 700r4. I've tried looking, but all I seem to find one to go from a v8 bellhousing to a 60⁰ transmission, or am I just dumb and that's what I need? Please help.

Hi TP,

Are you 100% certain of that? The 3.1 V6 700R4 and V8 700R4 have a different case for the different bellhousing bolt pattern between the two engines. While the 4.3 V6 is based on the V8 pattern, the 2.8 / 3.1 / 3.4 are the "Metric" pattern, as indicated in this excerpt shamelessly lifted from Wiki ;

Chevrolet V8 pattern[edit]

This was so named because it began with Chevrolet's V8 engines.

GM metric pattern[edit]

Also called the GM small corporate pattern and the S10 patternThis pattern has a distinctive odd-sided hexagonal shape. Rear wheel drive applications have the starter mounted on the right side of the block (when viewed from the flywheel) and on the opposite side of the block compared to front wheel drive installations. The 2.2l S10/Sonoma had the starter located in the same position as front wheel drive cars. A rear wheel drive bellhousing is displayed at right, and the integrated front wheel drive bellhousing is displayed at the lower right (in this case, as a part of the GM 6T70 Transmission).

No biggie, just wanted to make sure we gave the OP the right info

And, to Mspangler ;

If your gonna put a 350 in your car, forget about adapting your V6 transmission and get a V8 one instead. The one thing I'm certain of, beyond the bellhousing differences, is that the V6 700R4 is a "lighter duty" 700R4 than the V8 one, it has less clutch plates and likely wouldn't hold up to your 350 (especially if your 350 is gonna be pushing any kinds of serious power). Also of note, the front springs are different between the V6 and V8 cars to account for the extra weight of the 8 cylinder engine, so plan on replacing those as well (along with every piece of the exhaust system) .
