found a 86 bird in {parts} yard it has a stick shift i asume that
it is a 5 speed right can get it for a 100 bucks worth it
going in a 90 rs any problems that u might now of
need fast reply it will be gone soon

100 bucks isnt bad at all...I would just go ahead and get it.

 

I got one from the boneyard for $96. It looks like it's in good condition but i'm probably gonna rebuild it anyway. I'm not gonna take any chances on an 18 year old tranny.

 

Robert C, it probably needs a rebuild-which can some times be expensive. Price out how much a rebuild would cost and compare it to the price of a new one. Go from there. Good Luck

 

Sometimes the parts on a rebuild for a manual tranny are so expensive they a rebuilder would get a junkyard tranny to swap good parts into it .. at least thats what my instructor told me friday night buti got one from a boneyard and its been doing goood for the past 6 months

 

Just make sure it's coming from the same engine as you need it for. A V6 trans won't easily work with a V8 engine and vice-versa.

stick,slave cil and hardware for a 160 bucks it came out of
a lg4 86 bird going in my 90 rs lo3 i need to know if the speedo
will just hook up and what is the other conector on the 5 sp

 

The other connector is the reverse light switch.

Your car should have an electronic VSS but the 86 Bird might still have a Cable operated VSS. Pull the VSS out of the trans and see if it has a plastic gear on it.....that's a cable VSS. The electronic one *should* have some type of reluctor wheel with a magnetic pickup.(never seen one out)

BTW, I'm having the same VSS problem as you. I got a T5 from an 84 Bird.

the t5 has a little gear drive but no cable just some elc. wires
can i just change connectors they are diffrent and let it ride
and i asume that i can do that to my reverse light. from the auto shifter
