Hey guys anybody using the Hurst quarter stick shifter with the pistol grip?? I just picked one up for my 4l80e. My stock shifter isn't cutting it anymore so time to replace it. Looking for some feedback or install tips, what did you like, what didn't you like about it?? Thanks guys
Thought I'd give a little update on this. The shifter went in actually pretty good all things considered. Once I got the factory unit out I cut everything off and used the factory plate. I raised the front 1.75" and the rear 2" using some 3/16" flat bar and 1" angle and used the supplied sheet metal screws to secure it to the modified mount.
The cable is 60" long so I just wrapped it around the tail shaft and into the bracket on the pan. I wired up the supplied neutral safety switch into the chassis harness so that at least works. There was no backup light switch with the shifter so I had to order that up and it'll be here soon-ish.
I believe I can get the shifter plate to work with this unit I just need to notch around the reverse lockout switch. I'll make up a cardboard replica and cut what's needed out to get the plate to sit where it belongs. I won't be able to use the ashtray again but I think I'll make that area a spot for hidden switches or something
There was a question on whether it was compatible with a 4 speed though. I've a TH700 and am presently using a Hurst Dual Gate. Like 'em or hate 'em, my works flawlessly. Particularly while drag racing.
I'd asked the question as I was interested, and still am actually, in a full ratchet operation. The Dual Gate is, as the name suggests, gated. But it does have a positive stop function so as to jam one forward gear at a time with over shifting.
Once you're sorted could you post a vid of the operation?

So I can try you right now that this is 4 speed compatible as I'm using it on a 4l80e. It's gonna take me a couple minutes to get used to using this thing but I'm happy with it already.
As for the shifter plate I'm gonna order up a sheet of 1/16" abs plastic and make a new shifter plate. Using the cardboard cutout to make it a nice fit and finish
No problem. Yea a lot can happen in a 10 year span. Most likely the demand just wasn't there yet for a company to spend R&D money on something there might not be a good return on. The link you posted is the exact one I'm using
I made up a new shifter cover plate. I used 1/16" abs plastic for this one. It doesn't look THAT bad but being how this was a first attempt I'll most likely make a better one. At least it's not a humongous hole anymore so I'm happy about that.
Seeing everything together like it is now I could have probably dropped the whole unit like 1/4"-3/8" but it is what it is I'm happy with it overall.
Nothing wrong with at all. Looks really good.
Hindsight is always 20/20 remember. Like thinking about how you could countersink the screw holes to replicate the factory look. Speaking of which, how'd you get the crinkle finish?
FYI: The Dual Gate takes the shift plate and splits it at the ash tray. While you may not need an ashtray, it does serve as a handy receptacle for some of the bits and pieces that get collected in the interior along the way.
Well done. It gives me some motivation to do the same.
One thing I checked for when looking through Hurst's catalogue was the addition of a button at the top of the pistol grip. Some of Hurst's models have one however, from what I could see, the Quarter Stick doesn't. It would be a great way to have the torque converter lockup manual function integrated rather than a toggle on the dash (or the fog light switch in my case). .

Yea I agree a button in the handle would be slick. Eventually I'll probably get a transbrake installed and having that button would be perfect.

Thanks man appreciate that! I got the crinkle plastic sheet off of Amazon for $22 shipped. It was a 12x24 sheet. Lol yea I don't have a use for an ashtray now but I was using it for the interior bits and pieces.
Was just out for a drive kind of admiring that piece while making some decent 15 psi pulls! I got this Holley boost controller nailed now.
Just thought I'd update this thread for the next guy coming along to do this shifter. So I made a new shifter plate out of 1/8" plastic and it's now much sturdier but that's why I'm updating. I finally got my shifter mounted neutral safety switch and backup light switch wired in properly. So after you pulled your factory shifter out you'll have the flat 6 pin connector, cut all the wires off the connector. You'll have 2 thick wires and 4 smaller gauge wires. In my case I had the same colors as the picture.
Yellow and Purple are your ignition/starter wires you'll take the yellow and connect that to the middle connector on the Hurst switch and the Purple goes to the bottom connector. That will take care of the neutral safety switch side of things.
With the remaining 4 smaller wires the blue and green are for the reverse lights you'll take the green wire and put it on the middle connector on the Hurst switch and the blue wire goes to the other connector. You'll now have a fully operational aftermarket 4 speed gated shifter installed and wired up. Now the remaining 2 wires are orange and blk/wht they are only used if you are using a factory ecu with your car as I'm a Holley dominator guy these wires are useless to me.
The attached pic is for reference only your wires maybe a different color but in this case mine were all the same. I also don't have mine wired up like this pic I used male/female bullet terminals to make removal easy peasy if needed. As always when working on your own car use a multimeter and take your time. Hope this helps out somebody else down the road. Have fun guys
