T5 noises?

Hey all, I have a question regarding my 85 trans am. It has a 305/t5… not sure if the t5 is stock or not. This noise only started today and I’m not sure what would cause it or why. It sounds like a very slight grinding or puttering noise, but goes away when you step on the clutch. Any help is appreciated

Re: T5 noises?

Get it securely in the air and check the fluid level. Could be a throw out bearing too. I've also had rear axle issues that sounded like it was in the transmission area.

Re: T5 noises?

Another thing to check in addition to the above is the pivot point of the clutch fork and slave cylinder contact point. It's very common for T5s to make noise from that area though it normally sounds more like a chirping than a grinding. To test this get under the car with the engine running and the noise happening. Grab the clutch fork with your hand, if the noise changes or dies out then put some heavy grease (wheel bearing grease works fine) on the slave cylinder to clutch fork engagement point and also on the pivot ball for the fork. You can access it though the fork's cutout in the bell housing. Good luck!
