TCC?

Greetings!

I've bought my first gen 3 Camaro and it's a 1984 Z28 HO. I've previously owned older Camaro's and birds and I am new to Camaro's with ECMs OBD1. I'd like to delete the "XJY" A.I.R. system and replace the quadrajet either with an older non-ecm Qjet or a holley. However, after perusing the forums a bit, i've seen that certain TR400 transmissions have TCC. Obviously having TCC would through a fast hard wrench into my plans to delete the ECM. Does the 1984 have that? I looked at the wiring diagrams here Thirdgen Vacuum Line Diagrams - Austin Thirdgen and i don't see the "trans conv switch." I also saw on an el camino forum that the only thing the ECM did on the 84 camino was to control the carb and the timing.

Re: TCC?

The TCC Systems of this era operate on "Electric Circuits" and not "Electronic Circuits" so no ECM or any kind of Controller is required.

Only basic 12V Circuits.

Re: TCC?

Yes, the ECM is not required for the TCC System to Operate.

The Transmission will have a 3-Wire Set of Circuits coming from the Electrical Connector on the Transmission.

Use of which only needs the Brake-Pedal Switch (already there) and an Adjustable Vacuum Switch (you will need to Obtain) and you will be good to go.

Re: TCC?

Ahhh... ok so I need a 700r4 "lockup kit?"

how is it currently hooked up and able to lock up? via the carb? Thanks again! I've only tinkered with TH350's on older chevys.

Re: TCC?

If your setup is stock, the ECM grounds the circuit for the TCC at the appropriate speed.
I put a lock-up kit in mine from Monster Transmission. It was easy to install. It locks the torque converter in Overdrive only, and unlocks whenever the brake pedal is applied...
