Can anyone identify the large hex plug on the underside of the power steering rack. See pic.
I have a modified car with mostly 1990’s GM parts including the power steering.
Is this bolt for adjusting the the operation of the rack and pinion or is it a fluid drain.
I need to flush the system and cannot find any reliable info whether this set up has a drain or whether flushing must be done using the low pressure return line.

Do not remove it. That is where you set preload. If you need to flush the system, remove the return to the reservoir and refill there.

Re: Rack and pinion power steering
It's important to note that the large hex plug located on the underside of the power steering rack is not meant for adjusting the rack and pinion's operation. Instead, it's designed for draining the power steering fluid. Removing this plug can cause issues with the preload setting. If you need to flush the system, you can do so by removing the return line to the reservoir and refilling from there.
