So I'm swapping from an auto to T5 both have the electronic VSS. Wiring looks the same so should just have to plug it in and it should work right? And yes I have the T5 VSS sender for the trans.

So did the swap and no speedo. Are the pulses different between the T5 and 700R4 sender?

Pulses are the same. It's possible the VSS on the T5 is dead, or the gears are bad.

You can spin it with a drill and use a scope to see if it's working.

Technically, it should produce voltage, so I guess a test light would work too.

+1

The speedo in my GTA just started giving me crap last week; in my case I'm pretty sure the DRIVEN gear is a bit too worn. If you remove the sending unit from the tranny and turn the key to RUN you can spin the DRIVEN gear with your fingers and the speedo readout should show around 10MPH or so; ( you'll need a helper to watch the speedo ! ) if you get any response from the speedometer then the speedo gears are suspect; no response from the speedometer at all and the sending unit / wiring are suspect.

Thanks guys. I will try what John suggested. I have no idea if the VSS is good or not. Gears looked good on sensor and in tranny so we will see.

Update. For some reason the speedometer started working. It's off but I have the Dakota digital speedometer interface just need to figure out how to hook it up. I have a Berlinetta with digital dash so a little harder to do than most other cars.
