ring and pinion?
see if I have this right. I have a 85 v6 camaro ive striped down to the shell. still has k member and rearend in it. I have a 91 rs rear end with non posi. This is my question, if I buy a limited slip carrier and put it in the 91 rear end. Do the gears from the 85 sports coupe work. If not mistaken they are 3:43. thank you in advance

Re: ring and pinion?
Idk the ratio for the v6 cars. Technically you can swap a posi carrier. That said, you'll need to re setup the ring and pinion. To be honest, you should do a full rebuild and not use the old bearings and gears. I know some people set them up a second time and have good luck. The wear pattern makes it iffy weather or not tho gears will last with a second setup. Works for some people but not others.

Re: ring and pinion?
Why do you want to use the 91 rear end? Why not use the 85 rear end since it's already in the car? Rebuild it as needed.

Re: ring and pinion?
the 91 has 28 spline axels and the 85 has 26 spline. the stickey on 10 bolts said 28 spline is the better. t rpo for the 85 is for 3;42 gears. I would think moving the gears would be easier than the axels. I dont know. Thats what i'm trying to find out.I will check on the price of new gears

Yeah, the newer ones may be slightly stronger but these rears are kind of lame in general. What kind of power are you gonna put through it?

Re: ring and pinion?
You have to remove the axels to remove the gears. It's a LOT easier to remove the axles than the gears. Both housings are the same all the parts will swap. If you are going to buy a new carrier you might want to buy new gears, bearings and axels and put in 28 spline axles. If you use 26 spline axles you have to use a 26 spline carrier. If you use 28 spline axles you have to use a 28 spline carrier.

Re: ring and pinion?
thanks for your help. I'm only puting a lb9 into this car. so it won't be much HP. Auto trans to, I've not messed with this area of our cars. I may just keep this how it is for now and see what I can do latter.

Re: ring and pinion?
I'd leave the current rear in and get the drive engine/trans all set. Once it's going well and you're driving it, think about what you want gear wise. Then maybe do a regear/posi. You may want 3.73s or a different ratio. Just a thought. Also, not messing w the rear now may cut out variables after the swap if you have vibrations or other issues.
