Manual Swap
Hey everyone,
I'm swapping in a Magnum F to replace my 700R4. Where do I cut/drill on the firewall for the clutch linkages? I have been looking through the posts here and haven't seen any good photos with diagrams like there are for the fuel pump trap door. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Manual Swap
Somebody posted a template for it once. No idea how good it is. Try searching for "clutch template" and variations on such things.

Re: Manual Swap
I do believe the "cut out" is already stamped in the sheet metal firewall. The problem was no reinforcement.. That piece is defenatley
needed to keep from bending the fire wall.

I used the template from the board member who sells them on eBay. It worked perfect. Everything lined up well.

Re: Manual Swap
I used the "arms" on the clutch pedal linkage to mark those holes then just made a quick cardboard cutout the shape of the cylinder flange (which shares those holes). Easy peasy. Might eventually add one of those plates, but it's been years and hasn't cracked yet.

That's what I did in the dark ages before templates were offered. I bought one of the reinforcement plates from our member here but nothing lined up, since I just guessed at it. Can't win them all.

My 89 was stamped. ....I'm getting ready to swap my 86, though I haven't checked for the stamp yet. That being said, I do plan to get that reinforcement. I've seen him discuss it, but can't remember his name. Wildcard, you remember who it was? Mclovin maybe?

And yes, mods, I know eBay is taboo around here but there’s literally no other option in this case.

Re: Manual Swap
For what it’s worth to, the firewall on my ‘83 doesn’t flex when I press the clutch. Now if I STOMP the brake pedal I can make it move a little. I plan to pickup one of those plates just to have so that when I feel like standing on my head I can install it 🤣
I wonder how much of it can be attributed to people not having their seats adjusted correctly? (Or maybe due to body shape/leg length just can’t do so?)
For example, mine is set such that if I fully extend my leg the clutch is all the way in right at the end of its travel.
I wonder if folks have their seats scooted up such that if they press all the way they’re actually pushing the pedal past its range of travel and causing repeated flexing and eventual cracking?
