9 bolt or Zexel 10 bolt?
I'm at a crossroads and have to make a decision on what to run.
I purchased a 3.42 from an 02 SS and put it in what I thought was going to be my build chassis. After chasing a title that never came, and finding more rust than I was willing to deal with, I purchased an 87 roller that came with a supposedly freshly rebuilt 9 bolt 3.27.
I built a TPI 350 backed by a 4L60e with a comp 268 roller, nothing crazy power wise. Which brings me to my question: if you were given the choice of both rear ends, which would you run? Especially knowing that it's likely never to see over 300hp?

Does the width work with your wheels?
if Yes, does the limited slip work?
If yes, leave it.
I would open both. Verify ratio.
Verify if the 02 SS is a standard no-clutch-pack Torsen. Or SLP option HD Auburn.
It's highly unlikely the 9-bolt has a gear bias replacement carrier since that's imported aftermarket goods in N America. So it's open. Or it's cone clutch limited slip which can have wear problems.
89-up disc brakes are a positive, too.

Re: 9 bolt or Zexel 10 bolt?
The width of the 02 works beautifully, i love the stance with the wheels I have. I also rebuilt the 02 brakes, replaced the three hoses, and installed the proper parking brake cables. Both ratios are confirmed, and I resealed the 02 so I confirmed it was the Zexel design while I had the cover off. The 9 bolt has both calipers at the rear, so it has the 2nd design brakes, but I still prefer the 02 style and size.
I was already leaning towards using the 10 bolt and stashing the 9 bolt on stands in the garage. Thank you for your input!
