700R4 Brass Fitting for the Cooler Lines

Hey Guys,

Working on my 700R4 on the 1992 Firebird. I believe the brass fitting in the transmission case for the 5/16 cooler line is stripped. I want to replace this fitting, but want to get your expert advised on what fitting. One post I found mentioned 1/4' NPT fitting. I saw another post about it being tapered. Is this correct and should it be tapered?

I googled and found a site that is selling a oil cooler line fitting for the 700R4 5/16 x1/43 M462C. Would this work for my application?

I also assume that I can just unscrew the bad fitting, put the new one in and then the cooler line.

Let me know!

It's ¼" pipe, straight (NOT tapered). NPS instead of NPT.

5/16 x1/43 M462C
Can't comment on whether that's right or not. Seems largely indecipherable to me, so...

I can just unscrew the bad fitting, put the new one in and then the cooler line.
That is correct.

Why do you "believe" it's stripped? Especially given that it's brass, and the transmission case is MUCH softer aluminum?

I was changing out the cooler line. When i got under the car i saw it was leaking and when i went to undo the line it was loose. I assumed it was just not tightened. When I went beck to install the new line. I had a rough time trying to install and line up the threads. Finally got it threading in but after a few threads it would get tight and then loosen up. I was able to repeat it and get it kinda tight. But it leaks when the car is on. So i believe it is the brass threads that accept the cooler lines that are stripped. Not the threads going into the transmission case.
