1984 z28 manual swap ideas?
I installed a blueprint 383 crate motor in my Camaro this last winter and I’ve saved up some extra cash, my Camaro came with a 700r4 and I’m looking into manual swapping it but I need something that can handle some power, this new motor is putting out right around 480ft/lbs, just wondering if any of y’all have done a manual swap
and what I should look into getting.

For sure not a Borg Warner T5.
Someone will chime in and say they have done it and the T5 held up just fine as long as you gently roll onto throttle and shift it like a granny.
You spend money on a 383 stroker making 480 FT-LBs and a man probably wants to do 4,500 RPM clutch dumps and power shifts.

Hold my beer!
I had a 430hp/tg 350 and had a t5 behind it for a little while. It did fine w cautious abuse. Haha!
So after that, I went w a magnum f t56 from tick performance. I used a quick time bellousing, a concept 10.5 ram dual disk clutch and an American powertrain hydra release system. I needed a custom 3.5 in aluminum driveshaft. It all worked awesome. I have wide sticky tires and a 9in w a tight posi. I've since added a blower to the 430 hp engine. This drivetrain is handling lots of abuse and 3k rpm clutch dumps frequently. I used the close ratio t56 w 4.11 gears. It's perfect and fun as hell.
my 82 ta was an auto I swapped to a t5 and then a t56 later as power went up.
if you have any questions about cautious abuse w a t5 or t56 swaps feel free to ask.

Re: 1984 z28 manual swap ideas?
I also have the blueprint 383 crate engine with the same power but it is in my 69 camaro with 3:73 rear gear and 27" tall tires. Last year I ditched the 350 turbo 3sp in favor of the Tremec 5sp TKX that is rated to 600 foot pounds of torque. I have had it now in my car for just over a year and I am extremely happy no regrets at all. I contacted Silver sport transmissions and they set me up with a full kit and everything I needed for my install. They also sell the tremec 6sp. I was out the door for like $5500 with everthing I needed including a nice Mcleod clutch, pedals, hardware, crossmember and hydraulic master cylinder plus a warranty. You could easily buy any used 93-97 T56, or T5 to bolt in but there is no gaurantee on the condition then you have to find a donor car or buy new pedal assy, clutch assy and all the other small parts and end paying close to the same amount for used unknown quality stuff. My vote is on the Tremec TKX kit form Silver Sport.
