Starter Recommendations
Starter Recommendations
Hello all,
Ive been piecing together parts for my 700r auto to T-5 WC swap. The only hard part is sourcing corrected components as there are way too many options
In regards to a Starter, I’m wondering what others have used for a SBC with a 153 tooth flywheel
Whatever style comes with the automatic doesn’t reach the flywheel to start it

Re: Starter Recommendations
The most popular ones these days seem to be the LT1 ones, either from F body or Vette; and of course, aftermarket min-starters, virtually all of which are better than the stock ones for our cars.

Re: Starter Recommendations
I went with a JEGS brand mini-starter, installed with no shims and does the job great

Re: Starter Recommendations
Usually the dimension between starter mounting flange to the flywheel follows an SAE standard. I would not expect that to differ between automatic and manual transmission, but I'm not intimately familiar with the SBC platform and its variations.

Re: Starter Recommendations
I went with :
Hitachi style mini starter from JEGS
Had to rotate the face about two bolts clockwise, away from the engine to get the pinion gear to mesh correctly. I think I added a shim as well. No grinding or odd noises.
