In a 96 the put the 4L60E in...My first guess would be a bad shift silanoid....."Ha Ha I can't spell" but thats what happened with my 96 Chevy Pick up....hope I helped...
P.S. The easiest way to find out if this is the problem is by hooking up to it with a scan tool. The tool will be able to tell you if the silnoid is working...

You should have a "code" showing? Take it to someone who knows what to check electrically on this unit, if everythings checks out then it is a hydraulic problem and it will have to be rebuilt. If I can be of any help let me know?
PS: That might be part of the so-called good deal.

My 700r4 did the same thing for about a day. It was slipping in second around 60mph the day before as well. Had me worried, but hasn't did it since. Wierd, I know. My only suggestions are the obvious.....Check the tranny fluid, make sure it is full and is red(ish) in color. The darker it is, the worse. Of course, make sure your engine is warm and running, and is in park or neutral (should say which on the cap) when you check it. Most likely it is something like a bad shift siliniod or maybe even in the cable linkage. Try calling a tranny repair place and see if they can't help out. Don't let them try to fool you though

It's only a guess, personally, I think gta007 just needs to bring it in to a shop that he knows and trusts.
Or he could ask a certain moderator (unnamed) who seems to know but doesn't want to share. All Hail:hail: :hail:

When this occurs does it feel like it is in 1st? Could it possibly be in a higher gear?
Another thing that comes to mind is a problem that the trucks had in that year. There was a ground problem in the VCM that would show up after many miles and it would lead to erratic pressure rise. I don't think it applies to cars but I suppose it is possible. If I were to check it I would do this: Check for trouble codes (expect to see 1870 but that is another topic); Check fluid level and condition; Install a pressure gauge and both check readings in all ranges at Idle, Fast Idle and Stall, plus watching while the problem is occuring to see if it acts eratic.
