4th Gen Rear End

No, I'm not asking if a 4th with fit a 3rd.

However,

When looking throught the boneyards, I run across several rears on 4th gen cars with disc brakes on the rear, and I'm wondering if they are v8 rears. Of course, usually, all the badging is removed, along with the engine and tranny.

So, how can you tell.

Also, is their an easy way to find out the gear ratios as well, perhaps from a VIN. Some of these guys are practically buried in the mud.

Thanks,

Billy

without really getting them out of the mud its gonna be a chore. turning the wheel axle and counting the number of pinion rotations per single axle revolution will give you the exact gear ratio. but you gotta get the rear up out of all the crap first.
