4L80E questions

I have the a couple of pickups that I can buy with 4L80E transmissions and blown up diesel engines for very cheap. The question I have is can you make this tranny work with just the factory computer? Is the tranny computer completely seperate from the engine computer? How difficult would it be to put a gas engine in front of these transmissions and make it work right? I know they are quite a bit heavier than a 4L60, but when I get my supercharger on my 383 it will probably be a necessary swap, if it is possible. I know they have aftermarket computers that will make them work in any vehicle, just don't know if the original computer will do the same. Thanks!

You will need a different computer to control both the engine and tranny. The third gen computer will only control the engine. My truck came from the factory with a 454 and 4L80E and only uses a single computer but the computer is not the same as a third gen's.

Unless you are producing over 650 horsepower, the 700R4 will do ok! After that the 2004R will take up to 750HP when setup correctly. If you have any questions call me at 800 7763288 M-S 10-6 PST.

Yes, I realize the computers are different, but this is a 95 model pickup and I want to know if the computer on it will run the tranny without the original engine in it, say with a carbed engine in front of it. The pickup is cheap so if the tranny will work then I might just fix the pickup. If the tranny won't work then I will sell it and buy a 700 to put in it. I just need to know how these are setup, seperate computer for engine and tranny or one for both. Thanks!!
