trans is leaking from where?
trans is leaking from where?
hey,I took my 86 iroc to get it inspected.I knew it was leaking trans fluid but thought it was from the pan gasket from when I changed the fluid last time.well the guy said it looked like the front seal was bad.will this last aslong as I keep fluid in it?and is it leaking worse or less when im driving?I know it leaks when the car sits, and it sits sometimes weeks at a time without being driven.there is noslipping o nothing yet,YET.I kow I will have to get a rebuild soon, but cant afford it right now.just wondering how long it might last,or might not.thanks
your pump bushing walked into the seal(at least that is what it sounds like to me) no it won't last long. I leaks more as you drive it. sorry to give the bad news. how bad is it leaking? (seeping, or pouring)
if the car sits about a week ,then I will get about a 1 1/2 ft.puddle.I know that doesnt tell alot.but theres not a steady drip from anywhere,so I cant just put a pan under it and tell.It started leaking shortly after I changed the fluid and filter about 4 months ago.And its all over and around the pan from what I can tell.I didnt look at it when it was on the lift.Thats why I was guessing,no praying it was the pan gasket.O-well ,if so its served well with 145,000 miles. If its the seal would it be leaking higher on the case and down so i could feel it and tell or what?and its already lasted the four months.Maybe this will help, the car sat for I think 6 days after I had filled he trans ,it was about a half pint on the low side.I drove the car 78 miles and then it sat for 6 days.when I checked it again it was again about half pint, maybe a little more low once again.so thats what its leaking.

Did u use synthetic? if so drain it and use regular ATF synthetic is thinner and will find leaks easier, I am told, but have no experience with that kind of thing. If its leaking you need to replace the seal ANYWAYS, but using thicker fluid *may* help you ???
Just trying to help, i know when my seal started leaking it got worse REAL fast and could have damaged somthing eventually what with the fluid being so low...

but is around a half pint every 1-2 weeks that bad.and I checked it again and this past week it didnt even leak that much.I know it will have to be fixed. If I have to take it out for the seal, might as well rebuild it,huh?I think I will replace the fluid(I use reg.atf)and make sure the pan isnt leaking first. It feels and looks to me that its coming from the pan.but,my luck its not.thanks
I changed both my seals in the tranny a month ago. Its not hard to do. Just takes time to get the tranny down. My father and I got it out of the car in our garadge on jack stands. The tranny only weights about 70lbs, so its not a big deals to work on.
