Amsoil Supershift In 700r-4 How Much Is Too Much?
Just changed filter & fluid in 85 700-r-4 (50,000 actual) . I bought 5 qts of Amsoil Super Shift to fill up trans afterwards. Much to my surprise, when I dropped the pan, out came AT LEAST 8 qts of fluid. My question is, I will need at least 3 additional quarts of fluid in addition to the 5 Amsoil Super Shift I have. Should I use 3 more Super Shift (its synthetic and fully compatable) or should I just use Dextron for remaining three? I understand Super Shift will slightly "tighten up" the shifts. Would a total of 8 qts of this be over-doing it for daily driving, or would it just be that much better? Comments please. Thanks in advance.

I'd suggest using regular AMSOIL ATF to fill what you need beyond the 5 quarts, especially if you have a shift kit. 6 of the 10 quarts in my TH400 are Super Shift, and on the street it is firm to the point of being harsh. On the strip, it's fine.
