Aluminum Driveshaft

I have a chance to buy a aluminum driveshaft outta a 92 camaro police package car for $200.......do u think this is a good idea? is the drive shaft gonna be weaker then my steel one. I have a 90 formula 350 and the only mod i have right now is a borla catback but soon i will be building a mini-ramed 355. will this shaft hold up for me???

I have one... but only because I got it for free. I Dont see any benefints or gains of having one. Especially if you have to pay 200 bones for one.

its only really worth it if you have deeper gears so you dont get vibrations from the stock steel driveshaft.

I bought one outta a 2000 TA of of ebay for $155. Very worth it and easy to install. Aluminum have a higher critical rpm rating and cut down on vibration.
Something else to keep in mind....they won't rust
To everyone who bad mouths them, just keep in mind there is a reason they came stock in the 1LE packages.......

I have the Lingenfelter aluminum driveshaft that I picked up used for $200. It is 3.5" in diameter and is a very well made piece. I still havn't installed it yet (just picked up the right u joint yesterday.....and it was only $8 at Advance Auto) but will be very soon. I'll let you know my impressions. By the way, $200 for a stock aluminum driveshaft is a bit pricey. I've seen LS1 aluminum driveshafts go for $100-150 all the time.

The aluminum drive shaft will not help you out if you have done really no mods to it. An aluminum drive shaft the more you put into it will free up only a few horsepower to the rear wheels. The major benefit to it is for highspeed races..like on the highway. You will have alot less vibration, and your car will seem to stick alot more. Also if you do a road racing course it will also help.

you can always go with a carbon fiber one

I thought about that but i'm not super rich and can't afford the $700 for the carbon fiber shaft.

Contact Paradise Alley in Toronto. They've got them for $250ish Canadian which should work out to $10.00 USD (or slightly more..hee hee).

I bought a new Al 1LE d/s for $230. Didn't notice a difference in performance, but it was 5 pounds lighter.
