I've got a aftermarket aluminum tranny pan which allows a couple extra quarts of fluid and has cooling fins on the bottom.

Does anyone run one of these pans on their tranny? I had it on for a while put it seems like it hung down way to low.

I'd like to have it on but dont really feel like having it catch on something, on the other hand the extra capacity and cooling effects would be nice.

Whats everyone's experience with these?

You might have some benefit of a temperature drop, but the decreased clearence can raise the possibilty of the pan breaking (from striking something) and losing all its fluid. If you want a deeper pan, make sure it is a steel pan and not a cast aluminum. From my experience, the stock pan works out fine! I have used it in all my performance rebuilds.

 

I'm using a TCI one. It's aluminum with the drain plug which makes doing a fluid/filter change that much easier. The car's not my daily driver but as long as you're aware of it you should be OK.

The only problem I see is that for an everyday driver it could be too easy to forget about the lower pan. Going through your daily routine you may not remember until it's too late.
