TCC lockup??
TCC lockup??
Hey all,
myself and a buddy of mine are converting his TBI RS to carb. However, he wants to make sure and have his converter lock up b/c the car makes looooooong trips (he's in the Marine Corps). I know for a FACT that there is a manual lockup switch somewhere out there, and in fact I had one in my 91 RS a long time ago but just cant remember for the life of me where the original owner got it from. ANy leads or info would be great...BTW: did a search...no info i needed

TCI Automotive sells a setup identical to the stock 1980 GM setup. It used a vacuum switch and line pressure switch that closes when the transmission is in overdrive. It also has a manual override. Trouble is that I've only seen it sold through Jeg's and Jeg's customer service sucks bad!
I'm currently waiting to hear if Summit will order one for me. I'm not sure that TCI sells directly to retail customers.

check the tech articles under transmission.
It is a manual switch, but its still works nice, I did the same thing ur frien did to my 89T/A
basically, you just connect the 2 top outermost leads on the computer port located under the dash, jump the 2 wires going into the back together with a switch.
In case you didnt know, going to a carb setup will make the fuel pump not pump, so you will either have to use an aftermarket(I used a holley electric, left the stock pump in the tank with no problems) or rewire the pump in the tank to your ignition or switch....I did that 2 but the pump eventually burned out.
