Adjustable Driveshafts?

Is there such a thing? If so, where can I get it?

i've never heard of an adjustable driveshaft. Why would you want one?

Mainly because I'm swapping out the 2.8L(173) for a 7.4L(455) and swapping the 700-R4 for a THM-400. Therefore, the driveshaft is going to have to be shortened. So I was just curious if there was one. I thought I saw one in Jegs, but looked and there wasn't one.

But hey, an adjustable driveshaft is a good idea for someone to be working on.

Our old International Harvester tractor had a 2-piece splined driveshaft that could vary length. It had a max speed of 10mph tho.

There are shops that can shorten your driveshaft and re-balance it. I live in MN. and there are a few around here. Any big metro area should be able to do the job. Look under u-joint places. I'm going to be taking my driveshaft to a place hopefully tomorrow to have it shortened once I get my th400 and gear vendors bolted together and measure the difference from my 700r4.

You're going to need more than just shortening; the Turbo 400 has a different output shaft size & spline from your 700.

Lots of things have driveshafts with splined sections in them. The front ones on most 4WD trucks are like that. It could be added to a car shaft but would be more expensive than just having the right shaft made up.

Hey Bob, what are you doing, just replacing the transmission or are you replacing the motor and transmission?

And RB83, I have a yoke that will work. The motor and tranny came previously out of a 70's camaro, I know it will work with my '88. I'm pretty positive, it will. I'm not being mean, but I'm just saying.:hail:
