What other car or truck had this rearend? I want to find some 3.73 gears at a junkyard for cheap. I'll be looking for the 41-11 stamping right? I've heard Blazers and S-10s had the rearend. What should I be looking for exactly? (these gears will be for my 91 Camaro) Thanks!

 

7.5's came in late '70's and up El Camino's, Monte Carlo's, S-10's and blazers. And others.
Can't tell you the codes to look for but a lot of four cylinder S-10's have 3.73's.

You can find 3.73's in Astro vans...and very rare 4.10's.

The entire rear end won't fit because it doesn't have the torque arm mount and the diff is 4" offset to the passenger side. But the gears will.

Keep in mind those are only astro van codes. You might want to get a few codes for other vehicles in case you run out of vans to look at.

 

If you look at the front of the pumpkin, the code will be stamped on the left axle tube. Right where the axle tube meets the pumpkin.

Any of those gears will work if you make sure you get the right size since some are 7.5" and some are 7.625".

 

Forget the codes, they will only tell you what came in it, not what's there now. In the time it takes to get under a car, scrape the accumulated schmutz of 22 years off the rear end while laying in junkyard mud, write down the code, go home to look it up, and make another trip back to look inside the one that has the code you want only to find that it's already gone (since the junkyards keep a list of the codes, and the employees always seem to have real nice gears in their cars :/ ) you could instead just take the cover off and look.

 

I've seen 30 or 40 Astros at my local junkyard so I dont think I'll have a problem finding the gears. I'm buying a SLP take-off posi for my car and then I'll get the gears. Any more suggestions/tips?

Damn, that's cool. I can get my SLP take-off posi and some 3.73s for probably $150 or less. How much of a PITA is it to install gears yourself? I hate to spend more on installation than parts! I know I probably cant do it because it has to be aligned all perfectly and crap. How much should it cost me? A friend had gears installed for $200, is that reasonable?
