auto to manual swap(how do i do it?)
auto to manual swap(how do i do it?)
I am looking to do a swap in my 1991 z convertible. i've done a few custom jobs on it, but this is the largest so far (next is a 305/350 swap) I have 2.73 rear gears in it right now with a rebuilt 700r4. I need to know where i can get parts (tranny, clutch master/slave cylinder, flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, what parts can be reused, and whether to use a borg and beck plate. I dont know what to do with the vss(vehicle speed sensing?) system, what gears need to be changed to make it work right. can i reuse the trans cross member? the bolting up i can do, i just need to know where to cut the floor pan at and mounting of things at also. thanks for the input, james.

Car: 1991 Corvette Coupe
Engine: L98
Transmission: 700R4/4L60 same trans different name
its not hard man
i honestly think the worst part will be configuring the VSS.........
remove crossmember
remove torque arm
remove driveshaft
remove VSS and reverse sensor harness connectors
unbolt tranny
remove flexplate
next install your slave/master clutch cylinders
(i havent done this yet, but will soon)
install manual flywheel
install pressure plate with clutch disc
align clutch disc then fully torque pressure plate
install bellhousing and clutch fork
install transmission
install driveshaft
install torque arm
install crossmember
tah dah!!!!!!!!!!!!
just make sure when installing the manual, you put the crossmember on LAST!!!!!
the first time i replaced a clutch in my camaro........i tried to put the crossmember on first, then the torque arm........
too hard and wastes time
after wasting about 2 hours trying to figure out what i was doing wrong....i removed the crossmember, then put the driveshaft and torque arm on FIRST, then finally bolted up the crossmember
sounds kinda weird, but trust me, do it in the order i said to save a whole lotta time
