Well, my 700R4 lasted about 400miles behind my new engine......
I went for a little rip today and after about 30 minutes of driving the car stopped shifting into 3rd gear. It shifts into second and then tries to shift into third but it just flares and slips, big time. I have a spare 700R4 but i'm a little nervous now. I don't want to smoke another good transmission. Could it just be something small that's buggered up? Will a misadjusted TV cable cause this?

Sounds like the 3-4 clutches are toast, time for a rebuild. What do you have for an engine? If you have a ton of power then you should beef up your other 700 before install. If your cable was out of adjustment then your upshifts and downshifts to every gear would be adversely affected.

If you have a ton of power think about giving up on the 700r4 and go with a th400. And if you want to spend lots of money add a Gear Vendors overdrive. www.gearvendors.com That's what I'm doing now. Don't want to destroy a 3rd 700r4. Good Luck.
