Which Gears?

Hello

I have an 89 T/A

currently, the car has a very mild cam, gives out aroud4400rpm, but pulls awesome till then, and has 2.73 gears, a 700r4, with stock converter.

next week, I am putting a Corvette converter in it.

and in 1 month, I am having the gears changed.

What gears would be the best, I am also going to run either a comp cams x/e 262 or 268, so I will be basing the gears from the cam.
The engine redlines at 5500rpm, im afraid to push it any higher than that, as the pistons are stock.
I will proly also do some at home porting on the heads.

What gears would yall recomend?
I was thinking 3.73, I am also having a limited slip unit installed.

If you get a new cam that makes power to 5500 , 3:73s would be the limit. That's what I would go with.

Your pressent setup will suffer quite a bit with the 373s untill the cam change. I believe you'll have a LOT of grinding to do on the heads, intake, runners, and plenum. A xe268 will work real good if all of that is done. Don't forget the stall converter. The 268 won't like a stock converter very well. What stall is the vette converter?

A 268 should do fine with a stock converter, especially with 3:73s and the deep first gear of the 700R4. That cam starts power at 1600 which isn't that high with low gears. That's what I was recommended to get with a stock converter.

It depends, if you want a bear or a cub. I like the bear, myself.

If you go with 3.73's a stock converter will be ok with that cam. A higher stalling converter with 3.73's will probably just give you wheel spin off the line.
