Corvette Servo

Hey

I have a 1985 IROC Z Camaro with the 305 TPI engine. I have the G92 code for 3.42 gears. The transmission in the car is stock. I hear that people are using corvette servos in the tranmissions. I am wondering what the Corvetter servo will do to the performance of my car.... Is the Corvette servo better then the stock Camaro one. What kind of an affect will the Corvette servo have on the driveability of my car, and the shift times and stuff. Thanks

I'm not at all an expert, but since you haven't got any other replies:

The Corvette version replaces the 2 gear piston in the 2-4band servo.
(the servo has two pistons, one for 2nd gear, another for 4th gear)
It has a larger pressure apply area which will cause the band to be held firmer, thus reducing risk of slippage.
If the feed holes to the servo is not opened the apply time will increase since more oil will be needed to push the piston. But i don't think this has a significant effect, the overall feeling will be a firmer 1-2 shift.

The standard 4th gear piston is much larger than the 2nd, but aftermarket 4th pistons are also available.

It's fairly easy to replace the servo piston, but on some cars you will have to drop the rear trans mount to get access to it.
Also, my kit (TransStar) didn't include a cover o-ring. You will have to cut the original o-ring to get the cover off.

There is a good illustration at trans online

The Corvette servo will firm up the 2nd gear shift and firm up the 3rd gear shift slightly. The overdrive piston has apx. the same apply area as the Corvette servo. There are aftermarket overdrive servos, but I would install the Trans-Go Performance Shift kit as this will fix other problems as well as firm up 3rd & 4th gears by increasing the oil volume to these areas.

So with the Corvette servo and the transgo shift kit...it would be a badass shift. Is it possible for my to wreak or even blow my transmission with the transgoshift kit and the corvette servo. Thanks

I put in the vette servo when I rebiult my tranny back in Nov.
Cant tell you the improvements from it cause I also put in a shift kit and a converter for a vette, but my tranny rockz now!

The servo is only like 50 bucks for both parts, so its a cheap mod.

Peace

You can't get better than the Trans-Go Performance Shift kit and the Corvette servo, along with the large boost valves & some other of my modifications. If I can be of help, let me know?
