no, but it wouldn't hurt if you did, wouldn't help much either

If it's a new flywheel you won't need to resurface it and I don't think it would be a good idea to resurface it, especially on a Camaro with non-adjustable clutch linkage.

yeah, because after resurfacing it too many times, you'll either need a new flywheel or shims to act as a spacer behind the flywheel

funny, but mine was cut serveral times and it works great

it was cut twice since i bought the car (dont ask), and *** knows how many clutches the previous 2 owners went through with 160,000 miles

maybe mines not original

Most new flywheels are not very flat. Ever new one I've gotten I've taken and had them turned "true". Clutch chatter is a bitch.

I'm surprised you have had chatter problems with gm flywheels. I just bought a new gm one for my t56 swap, and wasnt planning on having it turned. They make replacement parts the same way as production parts, I'd assume, and Im sure they didnt have 4th gens coming off the assy line with clutch chatter problems. I certianly hope i dont have to pull it all back out to get turned.

Keep in mind I also got a GM flywheel that the crank bolt holes were misdrilled, so it could just be my rotten luck.

1- you don't have to resurface.
2- the old style, for the 2pc. rear main seal, has an extra hole that must be positioned properly, the way i've seen it out and the same i did was the extra hole blocked by the flat side of the crankshaft, wich means...
the support is kind'a weird half moon shape, the extra hole on the flywheel goes right in between (centered) of the 4 threaded holes located on that weird looking half moon shape.
no chatter nor any abnormality.

I don't know if that post was directed at me or not.

The GM flywheel I got that was misdrilled was an LT1 flywheel, for a one piece crank. Four of the holes matched up and two did not. The two that did not match were the ones on either side of the hole for the flywheel dowel.

I had them ship me a replacement and the holes were drilled correctly.

It was not an issue of installer error. One piece RMS flywheels only go on one way.

And neither flywheel was flat.

What if you have surface rust that has formed on the mating surface?

If you can remove the surface rust with steel wool you should be okay. Otherwise you'll have to resurface. It depends on how much rust there is.
