still have many questions about lock up switch
i searched the boards and i found some stuff but not enough to tell me how to wire my own switch up.. what wires do i need to splice in to and stuff like that.. as i have said in previous post i am swapping a 406 into my 88 fromula and taking the computer out.. that is why i need to hookup a switch to my tranny so it will lock up.. there is no way i am spending like 80 bucks on a mail order kit when i know guys on here have done it them selves!!! so i need help!!! the motor is ready to go except a few odds and ends yet need to find some pullies.. and wire the converter up and i am all set!!!! so if anyone has diagrams picstures or can just plan explain what i need to do in great detail that would be great thanks the sooner the better!!!!!
well iam looking for the samething and aint it funny i have the same motor
you will love that 406 after i had all the fine tunning done on my carb i left at least a good 50 ft black mark
but iam only one legged right now (got the posi just not the time)
but i read since your ditching the comp. that you can just run a 12v wire until you find it. makes sences to me. but $80.00 for wires and a gasket no way.

oh and i read the same thing bout the 12 v wire but what wire does it go to?? and do i have to run just one wire and what does it go to?? just a 12 v source that is on when the key is on? no relay or anything just a wire?? if so that would be sweet as hell!!

well the my pullies are V belt i didn't want them but after i priced the sepertine pullies from jegs i quickly chaged my mind. i cant take pics if you would like but like i said they are V belt.
well from what i read last night on one post it said to buy a toggal switch and take a 12v sorcuce that is only on when the key is on and put that wire on one side of the switch and then run a wire from the other side of the switch and tie that one into the wire on the tranny. but as for relay they said nothing other then you might want to fuse the wire and thats it.

what post was that on?? there are more then one wire going into the tranny.. if i remember right there are 2 plug ins and 4 wires in one and maybe 2 in the other but i cant remember for sure..
Most probably you need a vacuum switch and a new 4th gear switch.

The 80 dollar "kit" makes the lock-up/unlock automatic, just like it had a computer running it. It will also force the lock-up only to occur in 4th gear. The tranny should only need 12V when the ignition is ON and a ground. Run the ground to a toggle switch and that will control the lock-up. The trick is to figure out which wire is 12V and which is the ground coming out of the harness.
