Yep Probuilt you were right, The fairbanks repro kit sucks. I told my brother about the kit and he went out and got one. We put it in last night and now having some problems.
Transmission reprogramming kit install (Fairbanks kit) in a 83 blazer Th700r4. Yes we should have gotten a Trans Go Kit, I love the one in the firebird, but this is my brothers ride, He’s cheap and it looked like a good kit.
Now we wish we installed a real kit.
Here’s the problems were having, early IMO 1-2 shift, hanging and sometimes delayed 2-3, 3-4 is fine. The 1-2 shift is now taking place at 10mph and 2-3 is about 30mph, this 2-3 is fine under medium throttle but in general granny driving it will hold the gear until 30 anyway and sometimes will slip/delay a second before engaging from 2-3. We installed and torqued everything back down to specs also TV cable was readjusted to Leo's specs.
The installed option on this 3-stage shift kit is heavy duty RV. The modifications, which were made, 1. remove MTV up valve from valve body, disguard spring and replace. 2. Replace spring in converter clutch valve. 3. Replace spring in 2-3-throttle valve.4. Drill 3 holes in valve body plate. 5. Replace spring in TV boost valve in case. 6. Install stock spring in 3-4 accumulator and thin spacer from kit (the spacer is about as thick as a quarter). 6. Replace 1-2 accumulator piston replace with new 1-2 accumulator spring. The original 1-2 spring was broken but I’ve heard this is common. (We kept all the old springs ex the broken 1-2 accumulator spring just incase)
Does anyone have any suggestions on how we might undo the problems described? Apparently this company is out of business and we can’t get any tech support. I’m thinking we should reinstall the MTV up valve spring back into the valve body (yellow spring right?), or should we just remove the reprogramming kit all together? The only unfixable modification is the 3, 1/8 holes drilled into the separator plate.
Again any help or suggestions would be very appreciated.
Thanks,
SSC
If TransfixLeo read this it's going to look just like the eamil I sent him earlyier.

You will need to put it back to stock and get the Trans-Go Shift kit (Green & White box) and get another valve body plate. Your VB plate will have a single letter on it (to identify it) and will need to be replaced with another one, you have ruined the first plate with an oversized 2nd gear feed hole. Whatever plate you wind up with, compare it to yours and make sure it is the same. When you get this kit, call me for the HD modifications. Last I heard, Fairbanks merged with Superior (Inferior maybe?).

I gave Gregg your site address and told him to order the kit from you guys. Hopefully he will. Does the plate really have to be replaced? He's comming over now so were going to work on it tonight and hopefully get it shifting properly. My transmission book is unclear when it comes to the valve body springs, The MTV up spring is yellow right? I dont remember exactly the colors of the other ones except the broken 1/2 acumulator spring was purple but the springs the directions said to replace were all the same size so I dont think they will have to come out for a few days/weeks anyway. I guess I can tear apart my old 85 tranmission to check and probably replace his valve body with if its the same.
Thanks.

Well we got it last night. We replaced the missing MTV upshift spring and removed the 3-4 acumulator spacer. I checked the other springs and they were all very similar in size so we just left them. It shifts fine now, well its back to the original shift points, doesent hold second as long and even shifts a little firmer. I think it shifts firmer due to a 1-2 acumulator spring that isnt broken. I'm still trying to convince him on a transgo kit but unless any problems pop up I doubt a transgo is going to happen.
