700R4/Stall guru's inside plz :)

Ok here's the deal, some water ate my 700R4

Its being rebuilt, and I can't argue the cost or knowledge of the rebuilder, but i wanted to crossreference. HE says he's putting 9 clutch bands in there, the more the better? Or is he going to far?
Isn't stock about 7 or so?

Also this is a general question, can a shiftkit be TO firm if you're not concerned about driveability? To the point of breaking random crap constantly?

And the most important

I have an aftermarket stall, i was told that the water ruined the lockup clutches in it, so they're sawing it open, and rebuilding it, will this come back in worse than original condition? Or is this rebuild like a trans, I'll come out better than stock/original?

I dont want a $600 stall to go down the chitter cuz some co. took a saw to it.

1. If you are reffering to the 3-4 clutch pack, yes more is better they just need to be set up correctly.

2. Yes, some so called shift kits break things, B&M is the only one I have personal experience with on the breaking thing.

3.Yes converters can be rebuilt, can't comment on the condition of return because I don't know the shop.

Hope this helps and wish you good luck!

There is most certainly no B&M stuff in there

I'm going with transgo kit, but I didn't want to boost line pressure up the wazoo only to break stuff

the stall is my biggest concern

most converters are rebuilt. Few converter companies make new casings, and those are the high $$$ ones.

Dude, all convertors are cut apart and welded. My Yank ST3500 is, I just got it back and installed after a rebuild, where he cut it apart and welded it back together after cleaning it out and putting in new stuff.

Places like ATI, Coan and the other race convertor places cut and weld convertors back together to change stall and fix stuff all day.
How else do you think they get in there, little men?

No big deal.

If you don't want your 'cut apart' convertor, just give it to me, I'll take it
