What year did they change from cable driven speedo to electronic in the firebirds? I'm trying to figure out if a dash from an 88 TA will fit in my 87 TA.

 

The transmission end is the least of your worries, a 700R4 can be switched from mechanical to electric speedo in an hour or less. The problem is the wiring in the car, you are going to have to change all the wiring to the instrument panel to get it to work and I don't know exactly what that involves.

 

All I want to do is swap the dash out of my 87 for one from an 88. I guess my question is: did they change from cable driven to electronic VSS between 87 and 88 in firebirds?
