Any advice b4 tackling my 700R-4

soon when I figure out what I'm doing tranny wise I will be taking the tranny out of the IROC-Z. I took out the 5-speed in my 1986 2.8. Any one wanna give some pointers on taking out the 700R-$. Alos someone told me I have to drop the exhaust to get out the tranny. Is this true I really haven't took a look at that yet. Thanks guys

Jack the rear of the tranny up, and straddle the engine, and get the bolts from the top. Beware........the middle two will make you tear your hair out. The tops and bottoms are easy.....beware the middle two.........
Dropping the exhaust helps also.

This place has a very nice, fairly complete description on removing the transmission.

Items like the trans cooler lines, dipstick tube, & the upper trans/bellhousing bolts are easiest to remove once you have the the trans hanging down. Meaning trans mount & cross member removed & trans hanging (tilted) down & supported with floor jack. For the upper 2 trans bolts, go after them with a really long extension, working from the rear of the trans going forward, over the top of the trans.
