decode suffix stamping ?

DTW
al i know is that it has 77-79 intake on it and is 70's blue painted with black valve covers, and oil stick is on pass side and goes directly through oil pan instead of in block.
VIN code on block does not match car VIN at all.
ESC carb and dizzy are on it and are correct.

ideas what this is ? GM doesnt know either, and no places on the nest list it.

thanks

All the DTx suffix codes are for 1979 305's

I see a DTW for a 1979 305 found in Chevelle, Malibu and Monte Carlo's. No other information available.

All 1979 305's were 8.4:1 compression. Factory rated NET HP was 125 or 130 for 2 barrels and 155 or 160 for 4 barrels.

I have no idea on the dipstick thing.

see,t hats what gets me, how its on pass side if its a 70's engine, unless they swapped the oil pan over, but they would have to havhe plugged the hole in drivers side of block where stick was originally... hmm inspection time.,
Do F body engines use the pans with oil sticks dierecly in them ?

thanks

anyone else have anything to add ?

All SBC engines have the dipstick tube in the block. Maybe someone plugged the hole in the block and mounted a BBC style dipstick to the engine. All BBC dipsticks are on the passenger side and go into the pan. The upper part of the dipstick tube is attached to an exhaust manifold bolt.

Sounds like a lot of unnecessary work.
