Stroker kits 3.1 to 3.4???

Hey guys, I was thinking the other day. I know there are stroker kits for the 2.8, you know where you replace the crank and etc. But do they make anything like that for the 3.1. I mean, if I can stoke my 3.1 to a 3.4....wouldn't that be the same as doing and engine swap?? Would there be a difference between the two?

I have no idea, just a curious question.

the stroker kit yes will give you the cubes, but at the price of higher compression. Higher comp can be a pain to keep firing.

The engine swap is a 3.4 not a stroked 2.8/3.1 But yes as long at the stroker kit is for the Later 2.8 (with the same size main bearings on the 3.1 crank) it should work on the 3.1.

2.8L (173ci) - bore 89mm (3.50") - stroke 76mm (2.99")
3.1L (191ci) - bore 89mm (3.50") - stroke 84mm (3.31")

you would have to bore out a 2.8L and 3.1L 0.12" over to make it into a 3.4.. the biggest u can get them safely to is 3.2L (0.08" i believe).. boring out an engine for performance is not recommended..

loomdog....thanks for the numbers. That makes sense, figureing the 3.1 is a bored and stroked 2.8. So it makes sense there isn't much room left on the 3.1.

the 3.1 is basically just a stroked 2.8.. they have the same bore.. ie: u could rebuild a 2.8 w/ a crank and rods from a 3.1 and it would have the same displacement as a 3.1..

stroke - length the piston travels in the cylinder
bore - the actual size of the piston

those the cylinder wall thickeness are the same on them too... the 3.1 has the same as the 2.8(but a bigger bore) and the 3.4 has the same thickness as a 3.1 but has a bigger bore...
